Awning Windows

Frequently Asked Questions

An awning window is a type of window that is hinged at the top and opens outward from the bottom, forming an awning-like effect. This design allows for ventilation even during light rain, as the open window creates a downward slant that helps keep rainwater out while still allowing air to flow into the room.

Top-Hinged Design:

  • Awning windows are hinged at the top of the frame and open outward from the bottom. This unique design creates a sloping effect that provides protection from rain.

Crank or Lever Operation:

  • Most awning windows are operated using a crank handle or a lever. This mechanism makes it easy to open and close the window, even when it is installed in higher or hard-to-reach places.

Weather Protection:

  • When opened, the sash of an awning window acts as a shield, diverting rainwater away from the opening. This makes awning windows ideal for use during inclement weather

Unobstructed Views:

  • Similar to casement windows, awning windows do not have muntins (the strips that divide the panes of glass) or bars across the glass, allowing for clear, unobstructed views.

We offer awning windows in wood clad vinyl and all vinyl.

The cost of awning windows can vary based on several factors, such as:

  • Size: Larger or custom-sized windows typically cost more than standard sizes.
  • Material: Vinyl is often more affordable, while wood or aluminum can be higher in price.
  • Glass Options: Energy-efficient glass, triple-pane glass, or specialty coatings can increase costs.
  • Customization: Unique designs, hardware finishes, or colors will affect the final price.
  • Installation: Costs depend on whether it’s a simple replacement or a new installation.

On average, awning windows typically range from $400 to $1,000 per window, including basic installation. For premium materials, larger sizes, or custom features, prices may exceed $1,200 per window.
