Burlington, ON, September 12, 2012 – Recently, the Chancellery of Honours has awarded Mr. Reginald Pollard with Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal. This esteemed medal honours Canadians who have made significant contributions and achievements to their fellow countrymen, their community, or to Canada over the previous sixty years.
This commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Recipients of this award are presented with a medal designed by Cathy Bursey-Sabourin, Fraser Herald of the Canadian Heraldic Authority and manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint.
In the most recent ceremony, held in Hamilton, 29 people across the region were honoured including seven who live or work in Burlington. Alongside Mr. Pollard, Teresa Cascioli (Lakeport Brewery), David Estok (former editor-in-chief of the Hamilton Spectator), Ron Foxcroft (Fox 40 International), Doug Leggat (Auto Dealer), Rosemary Marsh (Business Insurance Services) and Mark Runciman (chief executive officer of the Royal Botanical Gardens) received the medal.
Nominated by his peers, Mr. Pollard was also recently inducted into the Burlington Entrepreneur Hall of Fame as the Burlington Entrepreneur of the Year for 2012 by The Burlington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) in June.
“I was surprised and deeply honoured to be awarded this Queenโs Jubilee medal. Originating from Great Britain, this award has a special significance in the sense that I like many others, came to Canada with a dream and achieved great success in building a business from the ground up.” said Pollard. When asked about his recent induction into the Burlington Entrepreneur Hall of Fame, Pollard said “I feel especially blessed this year. It has been wonderful to not only be recognized by your peers but also by your community. Thank you very much.”
