Product Development and Designer

Pollard Windows and Doors an industry leader of fenestration products is currently seeking an experienced and innovative candidate to join our Research and Development team to expand our business as Product Development and Designer at our Head Office in Burlington, Ontario.

Reporting to the Research and Development Supervisor, the Product Development and Designer will provide solutions for new product development along with the improvement of existing products. The successful candidate must possess the ability to combine technical expertise along with creativity and discipline in meeting departmental expectations.

Requirements:

Must have:

Mechanical / Architectural Engineering degree or diploma with design and manufacturing experience,
Be proficient in AutoCAD with a strong sense of design,
Experience working in a design and manufacturing environment,
Strong written and verbal skills,
Ability to take ownership and work independently
Skill Requirements

Exceptional design skills with strong manufacturing experience
Strong communication skills with desire to take on new challenges and uncover practical solutions to technical problems
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD design software
Developing 3D models for custom and standard product design, preferably through AutoCAD, but other 3D software applications may be acceptable.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently or within a team environment
Prioritization in order to meet specified milestone dates
Experience generating and maintaining Gantt type charts to track project completion
Generate and implement bill of materials (BOM) and prepare product costing for first generation product development
Experience in the window and door industry or a similar area of specialization
Results oriented, the ability to demonstrate success in overcoming obstacles, maintaining timelines, and budgets
A self-starter, be able to seize opportunities and move projects forward with minimal direction
Ability to work in a fast-paced organization
Effective problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Project
Excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with clients, colleagues, and suppliers
Responsibilities

Research fenestration market trends and the development of windows, doors, and related systems
Design and simulate 2D and 3D product models
Develop and maintain AutoCAD drawings in a drawing library
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to manage the project scope
Produce 3D parts and system assemblies
Produce 2D detailed fabrication drawings and bill of materials
Perform and witness product performance testing at third party labs and on jobsites
Perform and manage thermal simulations of both existing and new products as required for Energy Star Certification
Product certification for Energy Star, NFRC, and IGMAC
Provide technical support to sales, manufacturing, and customer service as required
An Asset:

AutoCAD
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
Excellent communication skills
Independent, motivated self-starter, able to multi-task and manage tight deadlines.
